LAIA GENC LIAISONTONIQUE 5

March, 9 Tuesday Ahmed Adnan Saygun Arts Center, 08.30 pm

Daniel Casimir: Trombone
Alban Darche: Saxophone
Laia Genc: Piano
Sebastian Gramss: Bass
Nils Tegen: Drums

The project is not only a band but a melting process of two musical cells. The german pianotrio “LiaisonTonique” meets two brave initiators of the french “YolkCollective”, a young dedicated force in the musical scene.
Alban Darche and Daniel Casimir blend naturally into the work of the trio and easily add their own charcters to a wonderful process creating the “LiaisonTonique 5” sound. Therefor the collective concept is a satisfying experience for all of us.
Since I have been living in France as an exchange student from 04 to 05 I was impressed and inspired by the muscial scene. In this collaboration one of my dreams has come true.
The initializing moment for the original encounter was an offer to play at the “Musiktriennale Köln” in 07. After that first process of working on music together, building a sound and the first very successful concerts we immediately decided to go on with the project.
When we organised a row of concerts in the Cologne area together with the association of “Jazz am Rhein e.V.” in 2008 I took the chance and we recorded the CD “Polyfangastronosia” which was recently released last year in October.

Laia Genc
Laia is a freelance musician working in the rich Cologne music scene and playing more and more all around Europe and in the world with her own projects as well as a sidewoman.
Laia is a proud holder of several European jazzensemble prices as well as solopianoprices that she awarded whether on her own or with her "LiaisonTonique" which is the heart of her work since 2005. Since then the band has recorded it´s third cd and is playing concerts all around the world.
To a lot of projects she adds a special colour as a sensitive soundpainteress, improviser, composer and arranger in her own particular way of mixing Jazz, free Improvisation and lots of musical charme to an unmistakable sound.
Laia graduated her studies in jazzpiano at the conservatory in Cologne/Germany with Hubert Nuß and John Taylor. She played in the BuJazzO and in the LJJO NRW (those are youthbigbands), where an early point on she had the opportunity to work with different kind of musicians and take part in some interesting tours such as a tour to Korea.
2004/2005 she lived in Paris and studied at the Conservatoire national supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris.
